CELEBRATION AND THANKSGIVING
The 5th July 2010 was truly a day of Blessing and Thanksgiving when we gathered in the Chapel of Swindon Convent to celebrate three anniversaries: the 90th birthday of Peggy McCarthy and the Golden Wedding anniversaries of Pat and Hannah Farrelly and John and Pat Brabazon.
The Celebration began with the Service of the Liturgy of the Word and Holy Communion as we sang “Earth's Creator, ev'ry day God” a great favourite with our Associates. The Readings reflected the very nature of Communion and Thanksgiving:
”Every time I think of you and I think of you often - I thank God
for your lives of free and open access to God, given by Jesus -
God is right alongside you, keeping you steady and on track
He will never give up on you.” (1Cor)
The Service ended with time of quiet Prayer and Reflection, in keeping with Nano's devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.
Both couples and the birthday girl were presented with a commemorative lighted candle, again reminding us all of our commitment to spreading the light of the lantern. The celebration continued with tea; there were many delicious bits and pieces to eat. A jubilee cake was cut, pictures were taken from all angles, and a little token was given to the celebrities.
As stories were told and memories reawakened, laughter was heard, and among us there was a deep sense of Belonging, of knowing each other, and to use the phrase we hear so often these days “of being in Communion”.
Thanks be to God for these moments which enrich us and encourage us to continue the journey joyfully and with confidence.
